Darebin Creek Diary

Funding Announcement Celebration

On Saturday 17 December, Ged Kearney, Kate Thwaites and several local MPs and councillors met with DCMC and MCMC staff members, and Friends of Darebin and Merri Creek volunteers to celebrate the recent federal budget allocation of $1 million for environmental restoration of Merri and Darebin Creek catchment areas.

$500,000 funding will go to the Darebin Creek Management Committee to enable them to continue important restoration work, including further support for the amazing work being done by Friends of Darebin Creek and the Darebin Parklands Association, as well as the Wurundjeri Narrap Unit.

“Protecting our waterways is good for animals, it’s good for our environment and it’s good for humans. It means our native animals can return to their urban habitats while we also get to have beautiful nature so close to home,” said Ged Kearney.
