On June 12, DCMC and OzFish launched the Darebin Creek Habitat Project at the Darebin Creek near CT Barling Reserve. Supported by Microsoft’s Global Water Replenishment Program, the 10-year project will see DCMC and OzFish collaborate with the City of Darebin, Banyule City Council and the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Narrap Unit to restore habitat at priority locations along the lower Darebin Creek. This long-term investment allows for the time necessary to heal degraded Country and sets a good example for donorship in our natural environment.
Community will be engaged in planting indigenous vegetation, monitoring nest boxes for wildlife including Krefft’s Gliders, and creating native fish motels for instream habitat.
Pictured at the project launch are Ged Kearney Member for Cooper, Nathan Lambert Member for Preston, Cr Castaldo and Cr O’Kane from Banyule City Council and all the guests who enjoyed the winter sunshine alongside Darebin Creek to mark the occasion.
