Project:

Darebin Creek School Custodians

Three schools in Whittlesea are leading the charge in environmental conservation with a new initiative aimed at restoring and protecting local creek ecosystems.

The School Custodians Project, facilitated by DCMC and funded by Melbourne Water has involved 3 schools doing plantings and pre- and post-planting habitat assessments. The schools involved are Mill Park Secondary College, St Monica’s College, and The Lakes South Morang. Over 1000 indigenous plants are being planted with the students this planting season.

The project, which focuses on the conservation of Hendersons and Darebin Creeks and the preservation of Grassy Woodlands, seeks to educate students about the ecological and cultural significance of these natural habitats. Through a combination of classroom learning and practical fieldwork, students will gain a deeper understanding of local biodiversity and the importance of sustainable environmental practices.
