Project:

Monitoring Darebin Creek Wetlands

Objective:

This project will train volunteers in the sampling and identification of macroinvertebrates so their ecological communities can be monitored using standardized methods.

Actions:

  • The project will establish a citizen science project that will rely primarily on monitoring data collected and analysed by trained volunteers.
  • Twenty trained volunteers will monitor macro-invertebrate populations in Darebin Creek and adjacent wetlands to detect differences in species abundance over time and between sites.
  • The project will monitor food availability for frogs, Rakali and Platypus in Darebin Creek and adjacent created wetlands and will provide information valuable for the management of wetlands for wildlife habitat.
